This simple light sensor uses an LDR in series with a fix resistor to help provide an analog voltage output between 1...4 Vdc during different light intensity.

 

Hook up and try it out to see what are values! Its easy, connect the + and - to the supply voltage (5 VDC) and then connect the S to your analog pin.
