Sigfox is a subscription-based wireless network (somewhat like mobile-phone network) meant for IoT devices.

The existing Sigfox communication standard supports up to 140 uplink messages a day (each consisting of 12 bytes) and up to 4 downlink messages per day (each consisting of 8 bytes). This lightweight protocol uses very little power allowing a Sigfox device to be operating for months or even years on a single set of battery.

The Sigfox network is available in 36 countries as of 2017, including SingaporeThe Sigfox connectivity will be available in more countries in time to come.

The UnaShield Hardware Guide contains information on features and functions.

The files at Getting Started with UnaShield and Sigfox on Ubidots has information on how to get the Sigfox ID from the device, Arduino library installation, explanation on the codes, activating the UnaShield and visualising sensor data with Ubidots.

You may download the UnaBiz Arduino library from GitHub.

Sigfox is one of the ways a device can be connected to the internet, or cloud. The following video shows this as well as other ways to connect devices to the cloud, each method having its pros, cons, tradeoffs and quirks.
